Rokamo–Nälkämä Wind Power Project

Suomen Voima Oy is planning a wind power project in Kemijärvi, with the impact area extendingto the municipalities of Salla and Pelkosenniemi. The project envisions up to eight (8) windturbines, each with a unit capacity of 7–10 MW and a total height of up to 300 meters. Electricitytransmission for the project is planned via a 110 kV transmission line approximately 29 km long, connecting the wind farm area to the Isokero substation in Kemijärvi. While the total investmentcost is not specified, the cost per turbine is estimated in millions of euros.

The wind farm area, covering approximately 2,000 hectares, is located about 22 kilometersnortheast of Kemijärvi’s town center and borders the municipality of Salla. The project includes upto eight (8) wind turbines, each with a unit capacity of 7–10 MW and a total height of up to 300 meters. Electricity transmission will be handled by a 29 km long, 110 kV power line from the windfarm area to the Isokero substation in Kemijärvi. In addition to the wind turbines, the project willinclude a substation, necessary service roads, and underground cabling between turbines.

The goal is to start zoning in 2023, with the plan ready for city council approval by 2025. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process is currently underway. The wind farm is expectedto be operational by 2028.
